In Reading, we are continuing our read aloud, Capture the Flag, by Kate Messner. It is a mystery about the flag that inspired the writing of the song, "The Star Spangled Banner" being stolen. A group of special kids make it their mission to recover the flag. Even though we've been reading this book for a few weeks, we'll start our genre focus on mysteries this week, learning about the elements of mysteries and some mystery vocabulary like suspense, suspect, and red herring. We will each try to check out a mystery book from the library this week.
I updated the blog this weekend to include some websites with great book suggestions, discussion questions , and also information about the 30 book challenge. Click on the top menu bar to read each page.
In writing, we will finish typing our personal narratives and post them on our Kidblogs. Remember, you can log on to their Kidblog accounts with them and then leave them a comment. Just sign your name since you will be logged in as your student. We will also write mysterious stories based on the wordless pictures in the book The Mysteries of Harris Burdick.
