We are learning about inferences in text for the next few weeks. Inferences are ideas based on clues in the text. We'll also compare that to explicit information which is information that is right there on the page, spelled out. Inferences created when you put together text clue and background knowledge.
In Writing Workshop, most of the students are writing their informational text pieces about the Native American tribes they chose in Social Studies class. They will work on this in class, and have been given a checklist to assist them as they work. Some students have already finished these, they are researching and create a presentation on a scientist mentioned in our read aloud book. They can then teach the class about that scientist using their presentation. Others who are finished are writing in our whole class journals or doing some choice writing in their notebooks. Last week we started homework writing assignments. Students are to write 10 minutes in their Writer's Notebooks on the topic of their choice. These are due each Wednesday.
In Word Study, we will begin prefixes - dis-, ex-, il-, im-, in-, and it-. Click here for a copy of the list. The test will be on Friday, November 7th.
