Fourth grade is also participating in March Book Madness again this year! Just like the NCAA College Basketball March Madness, we vote on favorite books and narrow it down to one champion. Voting is done by the kids online while in school weekly. The bracket has been set and the voting begins this Wednesday. The Champion will be announced April 7th! This is a great way to find new books to add to our to-be-read lists.

PARCC Testing: This week we will take the Math PARCC Test Monday and Tuesday and the Ohio Social Studies Test on Wednesday.
Reading Focus: Mythology - themes, comparing and contrasting, and explaining allusions to what certain lines from myths imply. For example: the midas touch (This week, I hope to get to these myths: King Midas, Arachne, Medusa, and Athena.)
Reading Homework: Reading logs are due each Monday
Writing Workshop: We will spend time brainstorming realistic fiction story ideas and developing the characters in those stories before even beginning a draft.
Writing homework: Students are to write 10 minutes in their Writer's Notebooks on the topic of their choice. These are due each Wednesday.
Vocab 8 - This is a weekly vocabulary challenge that we started last week. One side of paper contains 8 boxes to fill in for the teacher's challenge word. The other side looks the same, but students can choose their own word from their personal reading book, Science book, Math book, or wherever they like. These vocabulary challenges are to be completed mostly at home, and then returned on Wednesdays . (Originally I had decided they would be due on Mondays, but I have changed that to Wednesdays.) Here is a copy of Vocab 8.
