In Reading Workshop this week, we will continue reading Daniel at the Siege of Boston. We will discuss many things including context clues. There are many unfamiliar words in this book which lends itself well to learning to decipher the meaning of words using context clues. We will do many activities with context clues this week and then have a small assessment over context clues next week.
We will also begin our March Madness for books on Monday. All four fourth grades classes have contributed their top five favorite books and we have put together a March Madness book bracket. We'll vote for our favorite books and then right before Spring Break, the winner will be decided. This is a fun way to share our favorite books and discover new books we might like to read.
In Writing Workshop, we will continue our choice writing projects, but we will also start writing book hooks. With a partner, we will write a script including an introduction, summary, why we liked the book, and a few other book suggestions like that book. We will then video tape our book hooks and have a viewing party.
In Word Study, we will begin part two of R Controlled Vowels. We'll complete many activities and then have our assessment on Thursday, March 20th. Students can go to Spelling City by clicking on the link in the sidebar to study.
