We are about half way through Topic 7 (Multiplying Two Digit Numbers) in Math. We will have our test the following week. Homework each night is the lesson's Practice Page and Reteaching and Enrichment are optional.
Our read aloud is Wonder, and the students are really enjoying it. Mrs. Zawaly is teaching the students about the Mythology genre although several of the students already know quite a bit about it from reading the Percy Jackson series. We're also writing a paragraph about "My Favorite Season" using powerful words and strong supporting sentences. Final drafts will begin on Monday after students have had a chance to edit using the various editing techniques Mrs. Z taught the class. (Read forwards. Read backwards, Read to the wall. Knee to knee. Side to side. etc....)
We are going to start using a new reading log this week and it will stay at school. Students should continue to read the same number of minutes or more at home, but they will log that reading and any reading done during the school day in the new reading logs at school. They will not be answering questions about each reading session, but will have regular writing assignments in their new logs at school about their reading.
In Science we're finishing up our Matter unit and are planning to have a quiz on Tuesday if we seem to be ready. We won't have Science on Wednesday and Thursday due to the testing. We will have Math as soon as testing is over both days. Due to testing we will only have two days of Science next week rather than four, and then we will switch and our homeroom will begin another session of Social Studies with Mrs. Sarver.
This Wednesday, January 16th at 6:15pm you are invited to come to school and meet me. The curriculum hasn't changed, of course, but I may do a few things differently. Mrs. Habrecht and I will be in room 208 updating you on those changes. If you can't make it, no worries. The blog provides information on many of those changes and you can always call or e-mail if you'd like to meet another time. We'll finish in time to head down to the library for the PTO meeting at 7pm. Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday if you can make it!
Don't forget to send in those boxtops. We have about 80 so far!
