This will most likely be Mrs. Zawaly's last week with us as she heads for South Carolina next week. We have a lot planned for this week with her, though.
We are working on how-to demonstrations. Students chose their topics last week and we will start developing that topic into a demonstration on Monday. A How-To Demonstration page will come home including a rubric describing how the students will be assessed. Please help them practice their demonstration each night once they have it completed. Volunteers will begin presenting this next Monday.
Our reading focus this week will be biographies. Students will choose a biography from the library and we will complete an online project called a biocube. The biocube is a place for students to write the most important information about their biography person. Then the biocubes will be printed out and folded into cubes. It's a fun way to organize and present their information.
Homophones and then homographs will be our focus in word study this week. Examples of homographs are dove and dove. They can be confusing but quite funny when they are confused.
In Math, we will have an assessment over Topic 4 on Monday. Topic 4 was all about division facts including word problems involving division facts. We'll start Topic 8 on Tuesday, dividing by one digit divisors (sometimes with remainders).
We also started Fast Math this past week. I believe many students used Fast Math in the past at Wyandot. If you are unfamiliar with Fast Math, it is a software program that students use to practice their math facts. The program keeps track of facts the students have mastered and moves them along to the next group of facts. We are signed up for Fast Math in the computer lab each Wednesday until the end of the year for about 10 minutes each time. If your child does not know all of their math facts, please continue to study at home.
In case you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, here is the link to Channel 6 Weatherman Bill Kelly's visit to Wyandot:
