Reading Focus: Mythology - themes, comparing and contrasting, and explaining allusions to what certain lines from myths imply. For example: the midas touch (This week, I hope to get to these myths: King Midas, Arachne, Medusa, and Athena.)
Reading Homework: Reading logs are due each Monday (Tuesday if no school on Monday)
Writing Workshop: We are typing our first narratives and will begin planning our second narrative. We will spend time brainstorming realistic fiction story ideas and developing the characters in those stories before even beginning a draft.
Writing homework: Students are to write 10 minutes in their Writer's Notebooks on the topic of their choice. These are due each Wednesday. (Due Friday if no school on Monday.)
Word Study: We will take a break from word lists for a few weeks. This week we will focus on ordering adjectives. Adjectives are ordered according to this list: Number Opinion Size Age Shape Color Origin Material Purpose. We will memorize this list in order and learn about examples for each category. Then we will practice ordering adjectives, and create our own sentences with at least three adjectives and a noun. We hope to have a small assessment over this on Friday.
