In Reading Workshop, we are reading Daniel at the Siege of Boston, 1776 by Laurie Calkhoven. This book ties in well with the fourth grade Social Studies curriculum and is a historical fiction novel with a lot of action. Don't forget, reading logs are due each Monday. We will still do the log over Thanksgiving Break - 100 minutes of reading sometime that week.
In Writing Workshop, we are doing research on a topic of our choice and preparing for a 45 minute writing time in which they will write about that topic using their research. We will do this writing time on Tuesday, November 25th. We are discussing organization and writing a good lead in preparation for this. Weekly writing homework: Students are to write 10 minutes in their Writer's Notebooks on the topic of their choice. These are due each Wednesday. We will take a break this two day week, but will resume right after break.
In Word Study, we begin a unit on the "aw" sound spelled "ough", "augh", "au", and "aw". Click here for a copy of the list. The test will be on Friday, December 12th. We will also be learning about similes and metaphors.
