Read Aloud: 
We are reading  The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.  As always with the read aloud, we talk and write about characters and their character traits, setting, theme, story structure, point of view, etc....
Reading Focus: Plot Arc/Structure, Examining multiple texts and comparing/contrasting them
Reading Homework: Reading logs are due each Monday. 
Writing Workshop:  We are beginning to write narratives and learn about the techniques that help us write wonderful narratives.  Narratives are our writing focus until mid-March.
Writing homework:  Students are to write 10 minutes in their Writer's Notebooks on the topic of their choice.  These are due each Wednesday. 
Word Study:  Unit 10 on prefixes extra/extro, super, semi, pre, mis, and anti.  Click here for a copy of the list.  Our test over these 6 prefixes will be on January 30th.

Reading Homework: Reading logs are due each Monday. 
Writing Workshop:  We are beginning to write narratives and learn about the techniques that help us write wonderful narratives.  Narratives are our writing focus until mid-March.
Writing homework:  Students are to write 10 minutes in their Writer's Notebooks on the topic of their choice.  These are due each Wednesday.

Read Aloud: 
We are reading  The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.  As always with the read aloud, we talk and write about characters and their character traits, setting, theme, story structure, point of view, etc....
Reading Focus: Poetry (Similes, Metaphors, Personification), Informational Text including Text Structures, Comparing texts on similar topics. We'll also break apart the PARCC Practice Test and do some close reading and careful identification of what each question is asking us to do.
Reading Homework: Reading logs are due each Monday. We will have a hot chocolate party this week to celebrate our holiday break reading.
Writing Workshop:  We are beginning to writing narratives and learn about the techniques that help us write wonderful narratives.  Narratives are our writing focus until mid-March.
Writing homework:  Students are to write 10 minutes in their Writer's Notebooks on the topic of their choice.  These are due each Wednesday. 
Word Study:  Unit 9 on unusual vowel spelling patterns within base words.  Click here for a copy of the list.  Our test over these 8 spellings will be on January 16th.
